Lily Chen is the captain of Hunter's quizbowl team since the graduation of Guy Tabachnick. Lily led the 2011 Hunter team to a 2nd place finish at the NSC, after several wins and impressive finishes from 2009 to 2011.
Lily first entered the quizbowl world as a seventh grader by being the only person attracted by the existing Hunter team's witty ad campaign. Her first practice was marked by professing to never having heard of Corsica; things quickly changed as she attended LIFT and similar other tournaments, primarily of the NAQT persuasion, culminating in an astounding 8.85 PPG at the 2007 HSNCT. She improved over the next two years, and may even be able to buzz on the Wittig reaction before "ylide".
Writing
Lily's sense of difficulty was initially skewed; one of the first tossups she ever wrote was a purported high school tossup on colchicine. Her writing has improved since then thanks to her work on the four Prison Bowls to date, editing most of the science for the generally lauded second incarnation in January 2009, and head-editing the 2010 and 2011 incarnations.
Acts of Goodwill
Recently, Lily has begun helping out the quizbowl community at large. Such acts include:
- policing packets for mistakenly hyphenating Huang Minlon, who is, in fact, one person
- creating Excel scoresheets and posting them to HSQB; the thread has since been stickied [1] (this scoresheet was used and projected for the audience in the 2011 NSC final, in which Lily played)
- designing the new banner for ?????M
