Tennessee Academic Coaches Association State Championship
The Tennessee Academic Coaches Association State Championship was the state championship for high school teams in Tennessee. Many years passed, however, without a West Tennessee team competing and few teams outside of the Nashville or Knoxville areas attended. It used NAQT IS sets and was organized by the Tennessee Academic Coaches Association (TACA).
It was notable for its consistently lengthy (45-50 minute) matches, slow and incomprehensible moderators, and former odd three-quarter format (10 tossups without bonuses, a worksheet of 15 questions, and 10 tossups with bonuses in three thirds) as well as its insularity. Despite using pyramidal questions, its worksheet round often consisted of trivia or pop culture. Later matches were composed of 20 tossups, all with bonuses, and no worksheet.
The tournament awarded the full cost of HSNCT registration fees to the state champion and named the TACA All-State Team after all games are completed. No state championship occurred during the 2021 season, due to TACA's unwillingness to host an online event.
In 2022, TACA's State Championship was replaced with the Tennessee State Quiz Bowl Tournament, [1] hosted by Currey-Ingram. The inaugural championship was won by White Station.
