History
John Augustyn got his start in quiz bowl in the 5th grade when he, against all odds, won the 2018 Chicago Regional Championship for the National History Bee. He became so involved and passionate about the academic sport that he continued to play in various quiz bowl tournaments both regionally and nationally after the 2018 National History Bee.
In May 2020, the wildly popular quiz bowl Podcast show "For 10 Points" debuted their Episode #12 about the "Rise of the Terminators". Hosts Ken Romeo and Andrew Turriago discussed terminators as being individual players who dominate a tournament. John Augustyn was named in this Podcast as a lone wolf Terminator. As a solo player, he has successfully gone up against teams of 4-6 players across the country.
In September of 2019, John Augustyn joined the quiz bowl team of Stanford Online High School. John's first appearance at the Northern California Quiz Bowl Tournament occurred in December of 2020, alongside his teammates and famed players Arin Parsa, Karan Gurazada, and Andrew Chang in December of 2020.
He is known for not liking quiz bowl questions on Alexander Hamilton.
