Stats

The 2007 national finals of Reach for the Top were held May 25-28 in Edmonton.

Tournament Results

After the televised playoff rounds, Central defeated Kennebecasis 365-300 to win the 2007 national championship. This was Central's first Reach championship.

Participants

Alberta

  • Hunting Hills
  • West Island

British Columbia

St. George's continued its long streak of qualifying for nationals

Manitoba

  • Kelvin
  • St. John's-Ravenscourt

New Brunswick

Nova Scotia

  • Horton

Ontario

Gloucester has attended the national tournament 4 times in the past decade, winning twice.

Quebec

Marianopolis broke Dawson College's streak of qualifying for nationals, but continued the run of having a CEGEP represent Quebec.

Rule Changes

"Minus 5" penalties (or negs) were introduced for the first time in Reach since the CBC era. Incorrect interruptions during "snapper" or category questions now cost teams 5 points. Unlike other rule changes introduced at Nationals in previous years, negs did not appear during the regular season in 2007-08 until Nationals. Interestingly, the penalties are still not listed in the "national rules... used at the national finals".

No new question formats were introduced. What-am-I questions were moved to the front of the packets to avoid having 80-point swings at the end of a match (such as with the 2001 Gloucester victory).
