The 1979 Davidson team won the College Bowl NCT with a lineup of Tim Newcomb, Ed Trumbull, captain Tom Ruby, James Gibert and Sharon Gravett. They defeated a Harvard team including future Jeopardy! champion Jerome Vered 405-110 in the final.
The team was awarded $15,000 in scholarships and a paid trip to Manchester, UK to face Sidney Sussex College of Cambridge in a "World Championship," which Davidson lost 215-210.
