Smithville High School is located in Smithville, MO, just north of Kansas City. The school competes in Class 4 of MSHSAA competition.

Smithville first advanced to the MSHSAA state championship in 2009, after several years of being stuck in the same district as Class 3 powerhouse Savannah. The team placed second in 2010, third in 2011 and fourth in 2012.

After being elevated to Class 4, the team experienced a period of decline during the late 2010s. But, the emergence of stars like Brandon Clancy, Seaton Lowe, Joseph Sanders, Carson Bollinger, Alex Duckwitz, Nate Kershaw, Ben Kershaw, and Eli Bosley led to Smithville re-qualifying at state, finishing second in 2021 and third in 2022.

Smithville hosted its first Varsity tournament in November 2004 and continues to host it annually, now in late January. Originally run in a four quarter format, the tournament started using an NAQT IS set in 2013.

Coach Shawn Logan played high school quizbowl at Savannah in the mid 1990s.
