Carterville High School is located near Carbondale in southern Illinois. The team was founded by Brenda Bratcher, who coached them for about 20 years ending in 2003, and they have been coached since then by Mary Jo Osborn. They have traditionally been one of the strongest small schools in Illinois, finishing 2nd in the IHSA tournament in Class A in 2002, 2004, and 2013.
