Libertyville High School is a public high school located in Libertyville, Illinois. The team's nickname is the Wildcats. The school competes as a member of the North Suburban League (NSL) and also competes in Class AA, the "large school" division, of the Illinois High School Association's (IHSA) State Championship Series. It was coached for over a decade by Kristi Robertson, who was replaced by Karen LeMaistre in 2007.

History

Libertyville's quizbowl team is perhaps noted for two distinct facts.

The first is its location: between rocks and hard places. Libertyville is located in Lake County, just west and north of New Trier, in the same conference as Stevenson, and perpetually in the same Sectional as William Fremd. In short, Libertyville is never permitted the luxury of an "easy" conference or Sectional tournament. It is likely for this reason and this reason alone that their success at the State Championship Tournament has been so limited.

The second is that, through great seasons, many of which end earlier than they should, Libertyville has one of the longest tenured coaches in the State, the highly respected Kristi Robertson who has led the team at least as far back as 1995. While many coaches would have thrown in the towel at the constant lack of late-season success, Robertson and her Wildcats have persevered, and have patiently cultivated the team to have seasons where they could get past the other great teams of the area; and take their place among the elite programs in a very tough region of the state.

Noted Team Accomplishments

  • IHSA Regional Titles (5): 2002-04, 06, 07
  • IHSA Sectional Titles (4): 1996-97, 2002, 07
  • IHSA Championship Tournament Third Place: 1997
  • IHSA Championship Tournament Fourth Place: 2007

IHSSBCA Individual Awards

The following were honored by the Illinois High School Scholastic Bowl Coaches Association (IHSSBCA) for outstanding play through their All-Sectional/All-State Program. Each sectional comprises roughly 24 geographically concentrated teams, and thus roughly 125 starting players. Through the 2006-07 season, the top ten players were recognized in each sectional,(starting with 2007-08, the number was raised to 15) with teams restricted to no more than two nominations (three nominations starting in 2007-08). There are twenty All-State awards given each year (10 First Team, 10 Second Team) in each of Illinois' two classes.
