Many tournaments feature questions on '''current events''' (also abbreviated '''CE'''), usually political or socially-relevant news of the past year or few years. [[NAQT]] features a particularly large amount of current events in its question sets at all levels, which makes it advantageous for at least one player on any NAQT-playing team to stay updated on the latest happenings in US and European politics, and in the broader world. By contrast, [[ACF]] and other non-NAQT events often lump it in with [[geography]] or [[trash]] or write a small amount as an afterthought.
