Season

The academic teams were as active as ever in 1992. The varsity and junior varsity teams played a combined total of 78 games in thirteen competitions. The economics and history teams participated in the Michigan Social Studies Olympiad. CC’s American Studies (Citizen Bee) representatives competed at the county, state, and national levels. Finally, Ms. Welborn joined Mr. Weinberg in handling the coaching duties.

The varsity quiz bowl team faced the unenviable task of replacing all four starters from the team which finished first in the state and in the top four nationally in both 1990 and 1991. In spite of this loss to graduation, the 1992 team proved to be surprisingly competitive compiling an overall record of 39-29 and advancing to the quarter final level or better in six of the ten tournaments in which they competed. The year’s best finishes were a second in the North Branch Invitational and a third in the Inter-County Quiz Bowl League. CC placed a respectable seventh in the state tournament in Port Huron.
