This team was named "the greatest team ever" by Chip Beall after their NAC victory. It included Ryan Cooper, Dan LaRoche, Lisa Quinn, Patrick Spoon, Charles Miller, and Dominic "Nicky" Soranno, and was coached by Dorothy Meek.

Also won a second straight ASCN title, defeating Copley in the final. The Charleston Post and Courier falsely reported that this was the first team to win two nationals in the same year, forgetting about the 1991 Dorman team which won both the NAC and Panasonic, the 1993 Torrey Pines team that did the same, the 1997 Edison team that won the NAC and National Academic Bowl, and the 1998 State College team that won the NAC and PACE NSC.

The James Island tradition of sportsmanship was continued in that article:

"We spanked them," team member Patrick Spoon said. "We are a far better team than they were," said Dominic Soranno. "They shouldn't have been there."
