Holland Hall, the New Orleans champion, won the final 360-285 over El Paso. Holland Hall had won one semifinal 365-235 over Byram Hills, and El Paso had won the other 285-290 against DC champions Russell.

Tournament Events

After eleven previous visits to the city, this was the last NAC to take place fully or partially in New Orleans. The 2006 tournament was not announced until several weeks after Hurricane Katrina, so it is unknown whether the effects of the hurricane caused the move, or if it had been planned beforehand.

Matt Pargeter was put into the NAC Hall of Fame after this tournament. Additionally, the tournament summary says "Brad Rutter also entered the NAC Hall of Fame this year, honored for his dominating performance with Manheim Township in 1994-95 and, of course, his big Jeopardy! wins in 2002 and 2005."

Smoky Mountain Home School and Shanghai American School were both named "Rookie of the Year."

St. Joseph's coach Ben Dillon was acknowledged in the summary as receiving "credit for this year's massive NAC rulebook revision." For comparison, the old rules and revised rules.

  • (15) In 1994 and 1995, Brad competed and, of course, excelled, at the National Academic Championship and during the contestant interviews, he told Chip Beall he wanted to do THIS for a living.
  • (20) Brad was working as a record store clerk in 2000 when his alma mater, this Pennsylvania school, won the National Academic Championship.
