Season

The Academic Team finished off a very successful 2006-2007 season. The team participated in twenty tournaments in nine different states. The varsity team finished with an overall record of 142-21. They garnered nine tournament first place finishes. The Junior Varsity team earned four JV tournament firsts and the Freshman team won two freshmen division tournament victories. Individual team members who distinguished themselves by earning individual MVP awards include seniors Tom Mathew, Eric Muller, Carl Thompson, Carl Nelson, junior Joe Sheeran, and sophomore Brett Harrison, Jonathon Vargo, and Zorian Sasyk.

In March, the team won their sixth straight NAQT State Championship. They defeated Grosse Pointe North High School to bring home their ninth state championship in the last thirteen years. Senior Eric Muller was named to the Michigan All-State Academic Team.

In June, the Varsity Academic team represented by seniors Carl Nelson, Carl Thompson, Eric Muller, Tom Mathew, John Cunningham, and sophomore Brett Harrison traveled to Chicago, Illinois to compete in the NAQT National Tournament against a field of 160 different schools representing thirty-two states. Teams competing in this invitation-only tournament distinguished themselves as the best teams from across the country. Catholic Central placed eighth in the nation, which was the highest finish of any of the schools representing Michigan.
