The 2022 MSHSAA State Championship was held on May 6-7, 2022. Classes 1-3 competed on Friday and Classes 4-6 played on Saturday.
Questions and Format
Questions for Districts and State were once again provided by NAQT, after the 2021 championship used a different provider as a result of NAQT's prohibition on using their questions for in-person competitions due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
After a three year trial of 26 tossups with bonuses, which ultimately was only used in 2019 due to the cancellation of the 2020 championship and a reduction to 20 cycles in 2021 due to a limited number of available questions, the MSHSAA Board of Directors approved reducing the format to 22 tossups with three part bonuses. This change allows the MSHSAA series to use standard NAQT 22 tossup-bonus packets with minimal customizations. All questions are worth 10 points each with no powers or negs.
To produce the question sets for conferences and the state series, IS-203A, IS-205A, and IS-210 were unavailable for use during the regular season in Missouri.
Districts
Eight district tournaments in each of the six classes were held on April 9. District championship game matchups are available on the MSHSAA website.
Quarterfinals
The round previously known as "sectionals" was renamed to "quarterfinals" to emphasize that it is the first phase of the state championship. Quarterfinal matches on April 20 consisted of best two-of-three matchups between the winners of two adjacent districts. The winner of each quarterfinal advanced to the remaining rounds of the state championship.

State Finals
The Class 1-3 state finals on May 6 and the Class 4-6 state finals on May 7 were held at the University of Missouri-Columbia. With the move to six classes reducing the state finals to four teams in each class, and a full set of questions available, the schedule changed from previous seasons. The state finals now consist of a preliminary round robin, with the top two teams advancing to the championship game and the bottom two teams advancing to the consolation game.

Entering the final preliminary round, Clayton and Priory were 2-0 and Smithville and Rolla were 0-2. Because MSHSAA insists on having one championship game and a third place game, the format used for the state championship resulted in the third round having no direct statistical impact on placement in the tournament even before it was played.

Notes
- Fair Grove was the defending Class 3 champion and moved up a class from increased enrollment, while College Heights Christian was the defending Class 4 champion. The two schools met in the quarterfinals, making this the first time that two defending state champions met in the following season's state series. Both quarterfinal games were closely contested: the first game was tied after nineteen cycles before College Heights swept the remaining three cycles to win 420-300, while in the second game, College Heights held off a second half rally by Fair Grove to win 390-360.
- Clayton's 650 points (of 880 possible) in the championship game set a new record for highest score in a state championship game in the twenty-six year history of the event. The previous record was 600 points, set by 2013 Ladue (of 900 possible) and later matched by 2019 Ladue (of 1040 possible). It was also the highest score for a team in any of the forty-eight games played during the 2022 state finals.
