Avinash Iyer (Class of 2021) was a player for Mission San Jose in Fremont, California. He was widely considered one of the best high school players in the country. He finished 2nd at the 2019 National JV History Bee, was a part of the MSJ teams which finished 4th at the 2018 National History Bowl and 3rd at the 2019 National JV History Bowl, and was ranked 4th in the 2019–20 GrogerRanks player poll. He also edited history for the 2020 SATURNALIA set.
In December 2020, Avinash announced on Discord that he would be "removing [him]self from the quizbowl community effective immediately" after the revelation of misconduct he had committed at the 2019 HSNCT.
Hobbies
His hobbies include failing to read books, using Quizbug2, making a lot of flashcards, and writing questions. He also likes to listen to NAQT podcasts of matches cause they're cool, but he's never been in one.
