15 teams competed in a round robin, after which the top four teams were: Berkeley A (14-0), Berkeley B (13-1), Vanderbilt (11-3), and BYU A (10-4). (Stanford A was also 10-4, but BYU A had beaten them head-to-head). These four teams then competed in a single-elimination playoff. Berkeley A beat Vanderbilt and Berkeley B beat BYU A in the semifinals, after which Berkeley B defeated Berkeley A in the one-game final.

The top individual scorers were: Norm Gillespie from BYU A (53.9 PPG), Bryce Inouye from BYU B (48.6 PPG), and Nick Meyer from Berkeley B (47.3 PPG).

One player at the tournament reported hearing this delightful gem of a tossup: "A person who collects stamps is called a philatelist; what, FTP, is the name given to a person who collects butterflies?"
