John Lawrence was the President of Yale Student Academic Competitions from 2010-2012. He is known for his deep music knowledge. He wrote and edited the music for 2009's THUNDER tournament, and all arts for 2010 ACF Fall and 2012 ACF Regionals. He has been lit and visual arts editor at several incarnations of BHSAT, Yale's house-written high school tournament. In fall 2011, John wrote much of, and oversaw all of, the Lit and Fine Arts for MAGNI.

John was captain of the winning team at 2011 ACF Nationals and co-captain (with Matt Jackson) of the winning team at 2012 ACF Nationals, and had the second-highest number of powers in the field at 2011 Chicago Open while playing on the 2nd-place team with Matt Weiner, Matt Bollinger, and Gautam Kandlikar.
