Matthew Kaung is an alumnus of the American School in Japan's (ASIJ) Quiz Bowl team in Japan. Matthew started the Quiz bowl program at ASIJ and has led the team to qualify for two consecutive HSNCT tournaments.
Matthew is currently active in outreach and question writing and is one of the founding members and the Head Editor of the Asian Quizbowl Alliance. He helped coordinate both the 2021 and 2022 iterations of the Asian Summer Scrims.
Notable Achievements
In ASIJ's first season as a Quizbowl team, he led ASIJ to a third-place finish at the Asian Academic Quiz Alliance Winter League, finishing third in individual PPG scoring. In the same season, he also led ASIJ to win their first championship at the local Kanto Plains Brain Bowl tournament, where he was named an all-star and finished first in individual scoring.
He also actively competes in tournaments organized by IHBB, having finished 6th in the History Bee Asian Championships (2020) and 1st in the Academic Bee (2020, 2022).
