Max Schindler is a former player at Ladue, who is now in the class of 2017 at the University of Chicago. He won numerous top scorer awards during his high-school career, and led the Ladue team to being the best in Missouri from 2010 to 2014. He also wrote for and hosted LIST, a well-received housewritten high school tournament.
High School Career
2009-2010
Max played on Ladue's B team for most of the season, and won high scorer awards at the Missouri Fall Academic Tournament and the Villa Duchesne Tournament. At the 2010 HSNCT, he led the team to a 5-5 record and was the third place freshman there.
2010-2011
After a summer study session, Max led Ladue in becoming one of the top 50 teams in the nation. With him, Ladue won 4 tournaments and placed second in the Mort Walker Invitational. Max won top scorer in all of those tournaments. He hosted the inaugural LIST, a tournament written by members of the Ladue team.
2011-2012
Max captained the Ladue teams that finished t-5th at the 2012 HSNCT and 11th at the 2012 NSC, as well as Missouri's 6th place NASAT team. He also came in 2nd place playing solo at Yale's BHSAT. He head-edited LIST again with Haohang Xu and received the 2012 MOQBA Award for Outstanding Student Involvement.
2012-2013
Max captained the Ladue team that came in 2nd at the 2012 HSNCT, and won the 2013 NSC and NASAT. He head-edited LIST for a third time (with Haohang Xu and Ben Zhang) and won PACE's Benjamin Cooper Young Ambassador Award.
College Career
In the 2013-14 season, Max and his quizbowl-uncle John Lawrence joined Chicago's Marshall Steinbaum and Charles Tian, placing 4th at the 2014 ICT and 2014 ACF Nationals.
Chicago's subsequent offseason acquisition of Chris Ray vaulted them into title contention, with the trio of Max, John, and Chris coming in 3rd at the 2015 ICT (with Michael Coates as their fourth player), 2nd at 2015 ACF Nationals (with James Lasker), followed by a championship at the 2016 ICT and another runner-up finish at 2016 ACF Nationals (both with Jason Zhou as the fourth).
