The team has had to overcome two major obstacles. The first is their location, which is far from other large schools, forcing them to travel or host when they want to play other Class AA schools. The other is funding, which in some years has not come at all from the school. Unlike most high school teams, this team has its own Booster Club and in some years is self-funding. The team still manages to play a full schedule of tournaments in southern Illinois, and it used to travel to national tournaments.

Quincy is located in Western Illinois. During much of the 1980s and 1990s, they were one of the strongest, if not the strongest, program in the state. The team still is successful today.

From 1978-2001, the team was coached by Beth Young, a member of the IHSSBCA Hall of Fame. Young probably was the most respected coach in Illinois and played a role in IHSA's adoption of Scholastic Bowl and in the formation of IHSSBCA.

Quincy's most famous alum in collegiate quizbowl is Subash Maddipoti.
