The Small Schools National Championship Tournament is a national championship for the nations top small schools held by NAQT. "Small School" is defined as a public high school with an average daily membership of 500 or fewer students in grades 10–12 and a non-selective admission policy.

At the 2013 HSNCT and earlier HSNCTs, Small School playoffs were held for Small Schools who had been eliminated from the overall playoffs and a Small School Champion award handed out on that basis.

Qualification for the SSNCT is separate from, but similar to, qualification for the HSNCT.
