#scobowl was an IRC channel on slashnet home to a trivia bot developed by Alejandro Lopez-Lago. Players competed on two teams in the room while the bot read tossups from various tournament sets.

Options

Limitations

  • Answers were required to be spelled correctly to be counted by the Trivia Bot. However, answers deemed incorrect due to spelling could be manually corrected by channel ops or the person who started the game.
  • There was no system in place to avoid showing repeats of questions to players. Thus, some players simply memorized the leadins to certain clues they had heard several times before.
  • Powers were not supported by the Trivia Bot.
  • Perhaps the biggest limitation, of course, is that #scobowl is now defunct.
