Varsity Quiz Bowl was a long-running quizbowl show in the New Orleans area. The show ran from 1957 to 1991, making it one of the earliest non-College Bowl programs. It ran on a half-hour time slot on PBS affiliate WYES-TV.
Format
The format consists of ten-point "faceoffs" (with five-point negs in play). Getting a "faceoff" question earns the team the opportunity to answer a 20, 25, 30, or 40 point "lagniappe".
Additonally, the show features two "rapid-fire" rounds of faceoffs where only one team can answer and negs are assessed for any wrong answer. Further, each match has one "super trivia" question worth 50 points.
