Good news for question writers: the Encyclopedia
Britannica Online is now free for all. It had been free for
many educational institutions, but now is free for
everyone. Check it out at

I've used it as my default source for almost all
online question writing (along with Dwight Kidder's
Reference desk at
<<a href=http://users.sgi.net/%7Ekidder/refdesk/> target=new>http://users.sgi.net/%7Ekidder/refdesk/></a> )

The bad news behind all this is that
Britannica has been losing lots of money, and is in dire
straits.
