Re: Cross

Ok, I wasn't there for whatever debate occurred
in the chat room last night (although let me state
for the record once again that I am not opposed to
the discussion of *any* topic in the chat room, be it
politics, religion, etc.), but at this point, I feel
compelled to respond to the "flame war" that has developed
(even though it's not a flame war in the strictest
definition of the term . . . but oh well, not
important).

Tim is correct in his assertions that Christians --
and yes, Andy, "true" Christians too (I have yet to
meet a Catholic, including Andy, who did not at some
point try to convert me away from Protestantism) --
often have a problem with attempting to force their
religion on society at large. From the proselyting of
Jehovah's Witnesses to the desire of many to post the Ten
Commandments in public schools, a large number of Christians
are attempting to make this a nation based on
Christianity. Ironically, these are the same people who protest
the Taleban making Afghanistan an Islamic law nation,
and so forth. To further the irony, most people these
days seem to be worshipping a Christian church, and
not the original beliefs of Christianity itself --
for example, last time I checked, there was a lot of
stuff in the Bible about love and forgiveness; yet,
churches today attempt to use the Bible to continue their
patriarchal oppression of women and gays by only accepting
sexist and heterosexist interpretations of the
Bible.

As for an anti-Christian bias in QB . . . whatever.
Take any tournament and compare the number of
questions on the Bible to the number of questions from any
other religious text. If anything, there is a
pro-Christianity bias in QB, but like someone (I think Anthony?)
said, this probably stems from the pro-Western
bias.

At the same time, if Andy's original provocation was
demanding of Tim "If I'm not allowed to sleep around before
getting married, why are you?" -- I'm sorry, that was
tasteless, inappropriate, and uncalled for. And I think it's
especially disgusting to provoke someone by publically
criticizing something as personal as their sex life, and then
basically proclaim yourself a QB religious martyr when said
person objects.
