On a more relevant note on this subject: I'm sure
that in the quiz bowl community you wouldn't have to
look far to find a Jewish player who would prefer, in
his/her ideal world, not to play on the Sabbath. But if
we eliminated tournament play between sundown Friday
and sundown Saturday (and also on Sunday, for the
observant Christians), that would give us a grand total of
about 6 hours every weekend to play: 6 PM to midnight
Saturday. And even that would be a problem, given the
Orthodox Jewish feeling about travel during the Sabbath.
So we play on weekends. We're merely bowing to the
reality that we have other things (like classes and jobs)
to do during the week.
