Minnesota Junior Bird - Jan 22 2000

The University of Minnesota quizbowl team, in
cooperation with the Carleton College quizbowl team, is
pleased to announce the first Minnesota Junior Bird. This
tournament will be a mirror of Sword Bowl held at the
University of Tennessee - Chattanooga, so question
submission is not required for guest schools (but I am sure
welcome by Charlie Steinhice, see the Sword Bowl
announcement for details).

ELIGIBILITY: The
tournament is open to the following:
* Teams from 4-year
colleges/universities composed entirely of
freshmen and/or
sophomores and/or upperclassmen in their first or
second
year of intercollegiate quizbowl competition.
(Important note: since
the untimed game and ACF-style
format differs so greatly from the CBI
style,
participation in CBI and HCASC tournaments will not be counted
as
previous intercollegiate experience.)
* Junior or
Community college teams, even if they include players with
two or more years' intercollegiate experience
*
High school teams willing to take their chances with
the above.

Multiple teams may participate from
the same school.

FORMAT: This will be modified
ACF style, with about 14 untimed rounds of
20
tossups (worth 10 pts. each) and up to 20 bonuses (worth
a possible 30
pts. each.)

FIELD SIZE: If
this gets to be a problem, we will let you
know.

DATE & TIME: Saturday January 22, 2000 Tentatively
from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm, hopefully enabling teams
within a 4.5 hour drive to avoid 1 nights lodging costs.
We hope to arrange lunch on site to keep the
questions flowing.

SCHEDULE: Registration will
begin at 10:30 CST and the tournament will begin at
11:00 am SHARP, late teams may be subject to forfeit
matches.

LOCATION: TBD in the greater Twin
Cities/Northfield Metropolitan Area.

DIRECTIONS:
TBD

FEES:
Here's the fee structure:
Base fee $50 per
team
 - $5 per working lockout buzzer system
 - $5
for each team after the first from the same
school
