Just a note that I've been meaning to drop for a
while, and which a current thread has brought to
mind:
I've seen a disturbing slippage here and on the
mailing list between the use of "trash" and
"TRASH".
--trash is the perhaps unfortunate designation for
popular culture questions in academic tournaments, for a
type of tournament; it is a subject matter, a
sensibility, a way of life, etc.
--TRASH is the
organization that runs TRASH Regionals in November and
TRASHionals in April; there are many, many trash tournaments
that have nothing to do with TRASH. (FYI, TRASH stands
for Testing Recall About Strange Happenings--although
I guess it's not too much insider information to
note that we came up with the acronym before we filled
it in. :))
Just something to keep in mind
when posting or reading, and which might actually be
news to relative newcomers to the quizbowl
scene...
