The
two-word name College Bowl (TM) is a registered trademark
of the College Bowl Company, Inc. Their strict
enforcement of their trademark and licensing of it for
specific use has been a touchy subject for twenty years.
Since CBCI is so proprietary and litigious over a name
that seems so descriptive and familiar, folks
understandably have been very careful with their language and
specific use of this name. In our sport, playing "college
bowl" is like making a "xerox" copy at the office. We
have to retrain our brains and tongues to think and
say "quizbowl", just as we must if we want to
generically refer to making a "photocopy".
