Minnesota Junior Bird Update:

Hi,

I wanted to remind everyone about the
Junior Bird. If you have any questions, please contact
me.

Right now our field is looking as follows:
Buena
Vista College 1
Carleton College 4
Iowa State
1
Minnesota 2
Wisconsin 1

so we have room for a few
more teams.

Note that the location is now set
at Carleton College in Northfield
Minnesota.

Thanks,

Bird

--------------
The University of Minnesota quizbowl team, in
cooperation with the Carleton
College quizbowl team, is
pleased to announce the first Minnesota Junior
Bird.
This tournament will be a mirror of Sword Bowl held at
the University
of Tennessee - Chattanooga, so
question submission is not required for
guest
schools.

ELIGIBILITY: The tournament is open to the following:
*
Teams from 4-year colleges/universities composed
entirely of
freshmen and/or sophomores and/or
upperclassmen in their first or second
full season of
intercollegiate quizbowl competition. (Important note:
since
the untimed game and ACF-style format differs so
greatly from the CBI
style, participation in CBI and
HCASC tournaments will not be counted as
previous
intercollegiate experience.)
* Junior or Community college
teams, even if they include players with two
or more
years' intercollegiate experience
* High school teams
willing to take their chances with the
above.

Multiple teams may participate from the same
school.

FORMAT: This will be modified ACF style, with about 14
untimed rounds of 20
tossups (worth 10 pts. each) and
up to 20 bonuses (worth a possible 30
pts.
each.)

FIELD SIZE: If this gets to be a problem, we will let
you know.

DATE & TIME: Saturday January 22,
2000 Tentatively from 11:00 am to 7:00
pm,
hopefully enabling teams within a 4.5 hour drive to avoid 1
nights lodging
costs. We hope to arrange lunch on
site to keep the questions flowing.

SCHEDULE:
Registration will begin at 10:30 CST and the tournament
will
begin at 11:00 am SHARP, late teams may be subject to
forfeit matches.

LOCATION:
Meet at Auditorium
at Olin Hall on campus of Carleton
College

ACCOMMODATIONS ON AND
OFF-CAMPUS
If you plan to spend the night in the area, check in
advance about local accommodations, because on special
weekends at Carleton and nearby St. Olaf College
(Homecoming, Commencement, etc.) hotels and motels here are
often booked solidly. The Archer House (downtown on
Division Street), the Country Inn, the Super 8, College
City Motel, and Hillcrest Motel (on Highway 3) all
provide convenient lodging in Northfield. Bed and
breakfast accommodations are also available in the
Northfield vicinity. A large number of motels and hotels are
located in nearby Faribault, Farmington, Lakeville and in
the metropolitan Twin Cities, only 40 miles away.
Please refer to an AAA guidebook or a Twin Cities guide
for a full listing.

FEES:
Here's the fee
structure:
Base fee $50 per team
 - $5 per working lockout
buzzer system
 - $5 for each team after the first
from the same school
