Update- Emory/NAQT Fall Classic HS Tournament 9/28

The First
Emory/NAQT Fall Classic
High School Academic Tournament

Date:
Sat., Sept 28th, 2002.

Time:
Registration starts at 8:30AM, with announcements at 9:00AM.

Location:
Atlanta, Georgia, on the beautiful campus of Emory University.
Registration and announcements will be held in the Jones room
on the 3rd floor of Woodruff Library, which is located right off the
Emory quad.

Format:
The tournament will consist of a bracketed round robin one-hour
lunch break around noon and a break for playoffs around
3:45PM. Playoffs will take the top half of the field for a simple
bracketed final, with the last game scheduled to end around
6:30.

All games will consist of twenty tossups with power markings,
each leading to a 30-point bonus set. As per NAQT rules, teams
may confer on bonus sets, with no bouncebacks on boni.
Rounds will be untimed, with a break for scorecheck after the
tenth tossup (during which player substitutions may be made).
Complete rules will be given out at opening announcements.

Eligibility:
We are accepting teams regardless of geographic location, so
long as all players are enrolled in grades 9-12 at the high school
for which they are competing. No more than four players may
compete on a team at one time, although we will allow player
substitutions between rounds and at halftime. For
manageability, the field will be limited to 32 teams, with no more
than 2 teams per school allowed to register until September
14th, after which any teams will be accepted otherwise on a first
come, first serve basis. Teams that have registered but drop
before Sept. 14th will have their registration fees refunded, but
teams that drop ON OR AFTER that date will not.

Price:
$60/team, with a $5 discount for a working lockout buzzer system
and/or a coach or sponsor who is willing to moderate for the
duration of the tournament (up until playoffs).

NAQT Affiliation:
As this is an unofficial NAQT tournament, the Emory Academic
Team will be using NAQT questions, score sheets and
scorekeeping procedures, but will follow our own set of rules,
guidelines, etc. The top 15% of the field will qualify for NAQT's
high school NCT for 2002-03.

Interested teams or coaches should send us an email with a
mailing address so that we can send you further details on the
tournament and registration information. (Note: schools
registering AFTER September 14th should contact us by phone
or email to register, and pay their registration fee at the start of
the tournament.) We hope to see you on the 28th!
