I think the original poster was referring to USF, not to southern
Florida. In addition to having little in the way of an HS circuit,
southern Florida may be too geographically isolated for hosting
tournaments. I would have liked to host a tournament at FAU (in Boca
Raton, Jupiter, or Fort Lauderdale), but there are very few teams
within 300 miles. Until recently, I don't think any southern Florida
teams played anything besides CBI Regionals (at least since the
mid-90s).

Geograpical isolation is also part of why it's tough to sustain a
program in that area. Going to a tournament often means driving to
Chattanooga, which is a 750-mile drive from Fort Lauderdale. USF's
willingness to host tournaments in the past two years has been greatly
beneficial for qb in Florida, and hopefully schools like USF, Valencia
CC, and UF can continue to host tournaments and help sustain the
circuit.

Speaking of tournaments in Florida, there's still space in the field
for ACF Fall at UF on November 2nd. I've got 8-10 teams confirmed,
with about half a dozen more who are considering attending. If you'd
like to attend, contact me at rdhuwalia at hotmail dot com.
