Re: Fundraisers

Maybe I shouldn't say anything, because 1) I haven't read all the
posts; 2) I'm not even technically in college anymore, and thus 3)
this whole debate affects me no in way whatsoever, but there's
something bugging me about this whole fundraising question. Namely,
it seems that y'all are assuming that the only way to raise funds is
to host tournaments.

Many have pointed out that with what seems to be a tournament glut --
or lack of interest for new ones -- that this is impractical. So
what? Get creative! There are lots of ways to raise money; I went to
a college that was heavily Greek, and they all had fundraisers of
various sorts all the time. Hold a bake sale. Host a really good,
really big party that costs $5-10 to attend -- whatever it takes to
make a profit after costs. Set up a table in the student union and
have people donate change (this could add up at bigger campuses -- if
it worked at a campus of 2100 students . . .). Have a car wash. You
get the idea -- you're smart people; think outside the damn box.

Besides, there would be other benefits to these sorts of things --
like making QB visible to the rest of the campus, including the
administration. If the administration saw y'all doing fundraisers,
and learned why you needed the money, they might be more inclined to
find some for you.
