SNEWT VII Reminder #2


SNEWT is now four weeks away as of yesterday... 
Currently, our field consists of:

CWRU (1)
Penn (1 or 2) (tentative)
Swarthmore (2)
U. Virginia (1)
U. Maryland (2)
U. Delaware (2)
Bryn Mawr (2)

We are setting a tentative upper limit to the field at 18; if you plan 
on attending, please inform us soon, so we can finalize room 
arrangements.  If you've already registered, please let us know soon 
exacly how many buzzers and moderators you are planning on bringing, 
and remember, the no-penalty packet deadline is the 30th.


The Swarthmore College Bowl Team is glad to formally announce our 
annual fall junior bird tournament, SNEWT VII, which will be held on 
Saturday, November 16th, 2002 at Swarthmore College (Kohlberg Hall) in 
Swarthmore, PA. The format will be mod. ACF; packet submission; each 
team is required to submit a packet except in special cases approved by 
the tournament director. Email Chris White at cwhite2_at_... to 
register.

All undergraduates in their first two years of intercollegiate quizbowl 
are eligible to compete in SNEWT.

The base fee for a school's first team is $80; this includes breakfast 
and pizza for lunch. Extra teams are $60, and the mimimum fee for any 
team is $40.

Discounts/penalties are as follows:

- $10 for an *experienced* moderator 
- $10 for a *working* buzzer 
- $10 for each 300 miles (rounded down) 
+ $10 for an extra pizza (remember, each team already gets one) 
+ $35 for no-shows (except in case of emergencies) 

Packet deadlines are as follows:

- $0 if submitted by noon, Wednesday October 30 2002 
+ $10 if submitted by noon, Wednesday November 6 2002 
+ $20 if submitted by noon, Wednesday November 13 2002 
+ $30 for anything submitted later; or no packet at all. 

Packet distribution should be approximately as follows; the amount of 
tossups and boni in specific areas should be equal.
The questions should be ACF-style, but less difficult, as this is a 
junior bird. Guidelines can be found at

Literature- 5 (incl. at least one American, English, and foreign 
language) 
Science- 5 (incl. at least one bio, chem, physics, and math/computer 
science) 
History- 4 (incl. at least one American, one other Western, and one 
non-Western) 
Religion, Philosophy, Mythology- 2 or 3 
Art- 1 or 2 
Music- 1 or 2 
Social Sciences- 1 or 2 
Trash/ General Knowledge/Sports- 2 
Current Events- 1
