Chicago Deep Bench and such

Now that my first experience at such a uniquely formatted tournament
is over, I can say I had a good time at Chicago's Deep Bench this
past weekend. Questions were good for the most part (with the
exception of two packets), but were definitely on the trashy and easy
side. All the same, I was proud to get the Treaty of Adrianople
twice (the only repeat I can remember, nice work editors).

All in all, I was surprised at how smoothly everything went. Thanks
for the Giordano's pizza, and for the good questions. The one thing
I did notice was that 20 tossups seemed a bit too small to constitute
an entire game and to get an accurate measure of who was the better
team on the distribution. Take for example, the fact that winning a
game on 20 tossups alone during the singles/doubles was worth just as
much as having won a game of 20/20 during the quads. Probably having
something on the order of 10-20 more tossups per round in the second
half of the tournament would have made it truly excellent.

In any event, I'd like to thank Peter O and all of the staff at
Chicago for making this experience enjoyable and allowing us to get
home at a very decent hour, a rare exception these days.
