Re: [quizbowl] Re: The Circuit

Not that it is the highest priority (or even a very high priority) for most of the circuit players, but every CBCI tournament I have been to as a player or volunteer (1996-98, 2000-01 RCTs in Region 2, 1996-98 NCTs, 1999 HCASC) has been staffed with volunteers (in-line with the overkill requirements of the CBI rules) with requiring or even allowing assistance from participating players, with fully-functioning buzzers and clocks (no slap bowl), backup question packs handy and copied, and has started and run on-time (excepting protest adjudication). Also, I cannot remember witnessing an instance of a team needing to leave before the end of their matches in order to meet their departing flight/drive home.
It is somewhat nice to know that the "tournament experience" will be devoid of the unexpected and unwelcome equipment malfunctions, scheduling snafus, and TD shortsightedness that unfortunately has characterized far too many college hosted invitationals and ACF/NAQT/TRASH affiliated events.

What, prithee tell, might that be? Courting administration types rather than players, perhaps? That's the only thing I can think of that CBI has consistently done effectively. Whether it's "right" is another question. . .
