Prelim announcement: Franklin Invitational (HS)

Coaches and Players--

The University of Pennsylvania is planning to host a high school
tournament (working title: the FRANKLIN INVITATIONAL) on Saturday,
March 29, 2003.

At the present time, the tournament would use NAQT HS questions, and
would be open to teams from anywhere in the country.

The format would be similar to that used by Princeton and Yale, with
pooled round robin leading to some form of elimination playoffs. The
field would most likely be limited to about 32 teams, although we
would be willing to accommodate more teams if it is logistically
possible.

The reason for sending this announcement out is that I recently
received a letter expressing interest in the tournament from a team
that would have to fly to attend the tournament, and I want to know
if there are other teams that would consider flying up, so that I can
try to arrange a group discount. If this is the case, please contact
me in the next two to three weeks.

A full announcement, including a registration form, will be made in
mid-January.

P.S. The base fee will be approximately $70, and our goal is to
guarantee each team the opportunity to play at least seven games.
