Some of you may have noticed that I never posted an announcement
regarding whether or not Penn Bowl would be timed or untimed.
That is because, as the packets started to come in, it became clear
that there would be a number of factors involved in that decision.
I will be willing to explain the reasoning that led to this decision
next week; at this point, let me simply make the announcement:
PENN BOWL 12 WILL BE UNTIMED.
Entry fees will be reduced accordingly.
I sincerely apologize for not making the announcement sooner, but I
have been very busy the last few weeks, and mostly with things
unrelated to quiz bowl.
Having been affiliated with Penn Bowl in various capacities in its
last seven(!) incarnations, I knew ahead of time that this decision--
regardless of what it was--would please some people and upset others.
This decision was made in the best interests of the tournament: it is
the belief of myself and the rest of the PADT that the tournament
would be better untimed.
