IMPORTANT QOTC News (*possible* date change)

Hello all,

After much consideration this past week, I am *considering*
moving QOTC to March 22, which to my knowledge conflicts with nothing
but Rice's scienceless Acabowl and is actually nearer to QOTC's
traditional date (which is taken by Ironhead this year). There are two
reasons for this possible switch:

1. So far, only seven teams have registered. This is not in itself a
disaster, as there is still three weeks before the tournament, time
enough to sign up a few more teams. Anything eight and above, in fact,
can be considered reasonable, and .

2. However, more worrisome, is the fact that we only have one packet
so far: a freelance job by Seth Teitler and the folks at Berkley.
Teams that would register on this shorter notice would be discouraged
from registering by packet requirements, and, I doubt that me and my
teammates would be able to adequately make up the difference in three
weeks. In addition, it is an immutable law of quizbowl that, in the
end, not every team submits a packet. The extra month would hopefully
solve all of these problems.

Note, however, that we have not definitively decided on a change: it
depends on your response, as well as responses I get to both dates at
JCV tomorrow. So, I ask anyone that would consider attending in March
but not in three weeks to let me know soon, even if you don't wish to
definitively register yet- if I decide to change, I want to do this as
quickly as possible, and if the prospective field widens considerably,
it would obviously be in all our best interests to change the date. In
fact, I hope to decide whether or not to postpone by Monday or Tuesday.

And, don't fear: QOTC will still happen, and I will keep you posted
with any and all updates.

 Thank you very much,

 Chris White
