Re: expanding the canon: art history

Speaking as someone whose art history classes include a two-course
intro to art history sequence (primary text: Art History, Volumes One
and Two by Marilyn Stokstad), I'm all for more questions on art
history. It's the one place you'll here me beg for more questions on
classical Greek and Roman stuff (hey, I know enough Greek painters for
a bonus on them).

At most 40% of the subject matter of the two courses covered Western
art since the Renaissance, not a surprise since we didn't get to the
Renaissance until the second course. At one point in time, I would
have (and actually did) write bonuses like "Name these Chinese
painting techniques, for 10 points each." Well, I ain't pulling that
crap anymore. Now, I'm all about sneaking non-Western art history into
lead-ins and bonuses on regular history, mythology, religion, and
other topics because, really, I'm tired of it being a quasi-lit clue
straight out of Benet's being the lead-in to a non-lit question.

Iconography is cool.
