ACF Detox (trash): full results, stats, prizes, gratitude

Congratulations again to Betty White Zombie, winners of ACF Detox
2003. Full results and stats follow below, but first...

GRATUITOUS PLUG
The questions from ACF Detox 2003 are now available for sale, $15 per
set. If you're interested in getting them without actually paying
money, we will accept other tournaments in trade, or an original
round for us to use in our upcoming high school tournament. (E-mail
me for packet specs and other details.)

GRATITUDE
Thanks go one last time to UTC's departing stats goddess, Dorothy
Morisch. Thanks also to house readers Laura K. White, Phil Groce,
Stephen Taylor, and Toby Walter -- not only for coming from far-flung
points to read, but also for graciously yielding when packet authers
were dying to read their own rounds. Also, thanks go to a legion of
freelance question writers:
Jason Horn, Allen Kolko, et al. from Tulane; Ryan Blay of Michigan,
Allison Manzuk of Case Western, Rober Craig and Rob Tribbett of
Delaware, Brock Stephenson of Simon Fraser U., Stan Jastrzebski et
al. of DePauw, Sharlene Lee of UCLA, Robert Flaxman and Colby Burnett
of Northwestern, Miguel Ruiz (formerly of Arizona State) and Anthony
DeJesus (formerly of Case Western.)

TEAM RESULTS
We held a full round robin followed by playoffs that included all
teams but gave the higher seed a one-game advantage, so that if the
lower seed won the tie would be broken by a 20-tossup shootout.
Amazingly, though, the higher seed held serve in every playoff match:

    CHAMPIONSHIP

Betty White Zombie was therefore awarded an Osmosis Jones T-shirt as
a team trophy, along with 4 glow-in-the-dark figurines of the ghosts
of historical figures (the most sought after being Anne Boleyn, both
because she was holding her head in one arm and because her name was
misspelled.) For their 2nd place finish, Hot Carls for Everyone!
received 4 paperbacks of movie novelizations (among them Rocky IV)
and an Osmosis Jones ball cap. For 3rd, You Shank My Jengaship won a
set of 4 wind-up toy brains and another Osmosis Jones ball cap

INDIVIDUAL HONORS
The top 10 scorers (see below) chose prizes from such videos as "The
Making of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Behind the Shells."

Numerous players earned bragging rights as the only person to answer
a particular tossup. Since a whole lotta people are planning to
practice on these questions, I won't list all the answers, but those
so honored were:

Lance Storm (Jake Armstrong) of Sweet Chin Music of the Night
Lawrence (Chris Walker) of TPS Report Gestapo
Peter (Mark Dawson) of TPS Report Gestapo
Loose Cannon (Joe Grimes) of Hot Carls for Everyone!
Marzipan (Gail Celio) of You Shank My Jengaship
Rose Nylund (Keith Hudson) of Betty White Zombie
Sydney Barrenger (David Moore) of Splinter Cell Anemia
PBS Pledge Enforcement Officer (James Quintong) of Betty White Zombie
(2)
R.M.A.R.C. (Robert Trent) of We'll Never Tell (2)
Jimmy Gator (John Kilby) of Splinter Cell Anemia (3)

For his 3 bragging rights on very different answers (Harlan Pepper,
Devil May Cry 2, and Joey Lawrence's "Nothing My Love Can't Fix"),
Kilby received a copy of William Shatner's autobiography _Get A
Life!_ Another copy of _Get a Life!_ went to Mark Franklin of You
Shank My Jengaship for the scariest speed buzz -- he got NY Times
crossword puzzle editor Will Shortz from just the fact that he
designed his own college degree at Indiana -- *before* the name of
that major was read.

The Dren Rollins Award for Excellence in Negging went to Dren Rollins
of TPS Report Gestapo. Gail Celio of You Shank My Jengaship was
named Title IX All-Star, for which she received Ashley Montagu's book
_The Natural Superiority of Women_ (a prize, ironically, she had
donated earlier to the Prize Closet of Doom collection.) A copy of
_A
Very Brady Guide to Life_ went to the player with the most gloriously
wrong answer, Brian Jenkins of You Shank My Jengaship:
Wrong answer: Gone in 60 Seconds
Right answer: My Mother the Car.

Other gloriously wrong answers, on tossups on or 30- or 20-point
bonus clues:
