Re: Sportsmanship or Legal Strategy?

As both a College Quiz Bowl player and a Middle School Quiz Bowl 
coach, I'd like to weigh in on this issue.

First, as a player - I would've done exaclty the same thing.  The 
rules were obviously not thought out... It's not unsportsmanlike to 
win within the realm of the rules.  It is, however, stupid to risk 
losing when you CAN win within the rules.  

Secondly, as a coach - I would never enter my team in a competition 
where the rules were so incredibly ridiculous.  This has come up a 
few times in my coaching experience... There are a number of events 
in which that I refuse to enter my kids  because I highly question 
the legitimacy of the rules.  I suggest boycotting such events.
