Chicago Open and Singles Update

Hey all,

This is just to confirm that Chicago Open will in fact be held on
Saturday, July 26 on the campus of the University of Chicago with
questions written by me (I might be getting help with the science).
At this point I'm planning on having 15 rounds, but if I get pressed
I'll only write 14. The field is going to be limited to 14 teams.
You can expect difficulty to follow that of years past.

Fees - $95 base fee
- $10 off for the first buzzer system, and $5 off for the second,
nothing off for the third. I reserve the right to ask for this money
back if your system does not have at least 8 functional buzzers and 7
functional lights for the duration of the day.
- I might need moderators and will compensate them if I do. I'll let
teams and individuals know more about that as the date approaches.

Registered teams:
- Weiner, Lafer, Sorice, and Potru (I think)
- Hillemann and Hentzel (looking to capture their third crown in four
years)
- Litvak, Heller, Yaphe, and Berdichevsky
- ISU avec Wesley Matthews
- Koo, Reece, Cohn, and Ferrari
- Nathan Freeburg
- Borglum, Dhuwalia, McKenzie, and Kendall
- Valencia A

(Sorry if I fucked up your name. If anyone is on here who shouldn't
be, please let me know and vice versa and all that jazz)

I also have two free agents, so if anyone needs teammates please e-
mail me at suby 10 at yahoo dot com or subash at uchicago dot edu

The Singles tournament will be happening, and it will not be science
lite. It will happen on Sunday (start around 10, should be done by 3-
4). Seth Teitler has kindly consented to write the majority of the
science, and for that I am eternally grateful to him.

The entry fee will be $10 per person, and the field will be limited
to 36 people. There will be prizes awarded to the top 10 and
probably more. The team tournament will also have prizes galore of
course. No trophies for either tournament - books, CDs, or an
evening out on the town with Chris Vicich will all be in play, though
Chris might be replaced by Dom Ricci's platypus if things don't work
out.

As you might have seen, Maryland is running a mirror of this
tournament, and it looks as if Berkeley will be as well.

Please e-mail me if you have any questions or would like to register
a team. At this point, I'm going to start an official registration
for the singles tournament. I know many of you have already
expressed interest, but I ask that you e-mail me again with a simple,
Yes I am going to play, or I'd like to but I'm not sure, or Subash
you are a better Indian player than Vik Vaz. I guess your e-mail
could contain two of these three responses.

I look forward to seeing many of you next month,
Subash
