A top fifteen poll doesn't seem like a bad idea
(whether it's for trash players or academic players), but
I do have a couple of questions?
1.Will a
required recency period exist for nominated players? IOW,
will eligible players consist of those who have played
in a tournament this year or who are on an active
team roster in a format that has some trash, or those
who have played through last year? A more shallow
pool may lead to what seems to be a well-balanced
list, but could omit a star player who comes out of
retirement at TRASHionals or one of the upcoming
tournaments.
Secondly, the old East Coast/West Coast/ Midwest/ Southeast
circuit problem. Hopefully the pollsters will be able to
take care of this in a fair, rational manner, but the
traditional polls have brought about more than their fair
share of sniping.
Overall, though, as long as
the voting is taken seriously and the results are not
taken TOO seriously, I'm in favor of the poll and
willing to participate.
