ANNOUNCEMENT: Grinnell Undergraduate Tournament, October 4, 2003

Greetings, all,

The Grinnell College Academic Team is pleased to announce
the first annual (?) Grinnell Undergraduate Tournament (GUT), to
be held October 4, 2003.

This will be a non-submission, undergraduate-only tournament
with questions supplied by National Academic Quiz
Tournaments (NAQT). For this tournament, in order to
accommodate novice and experience players while still
matching team strength, we will be using the same eligibility
rules as used at the Carleton Undergraduate Tournament.

The tournament will use NAQT rules, except that matches will be
untimed. All teams will be assured of playing at least 11 rounds.

We are tentatively limiting the field size to 24 teams, though that
number is subject to change depending on interest/space.

Fee Structure will be as follows:

$50 per team, regardless of team size
-$5 for supplying a working buzzer set (one discount per team;
please let us know when registering)
-$10 (and our eternal gratitude) for supplying a moderator
Minimum fee: $35

Full rules and tournament info may be found at our tournament
website, www.grinnell.edu/groups/quizbowl/gut2.html. Please
note that this page is still under construction, and you may
stumble across a page wherein the tournament is named
differently if you explore the quizbowl main page; the reason for
this is an internal debate over whether or not to rename the
tournament in honor of a Grinnell quizbowler who passed away
last spring. In either case, all information about the tournament
up so far other than the name is fixed, and a definitive version
should be available sometime this week.

For more information or to register, please send an email to
houston at grinnell dot edu. We hope to see you in Grinnell this
October!

Cheers,
Brad Houston, GUT TD
