Unofficial Mid-Atlantic Results

Congrats to Penn State A for emerging through a
tough field unscathed at 13-0. They defeated an
excellent 12-1 Maryland "B" team (the one with David
Hamilton and John Nam on it) by about 125 in the round
robin (there was no playoff). Duke finished third at
10-3; then came South Carolina, who took fourth at 8-5
by virtue of its head-to-head win over Johns
Hopkins.

Penn State A deserves a lot of props; they are the
old-school "complete team"; youngsters Matt Hofer and Cathy
Vrentas get better with every tournament. Duke looked
impressive as well, putting up a 300 in the second half
against us after trailing 180-140. Duke without Gourab =
good. Duke with Gourab = scary.

I won't comment
on the questions until given the OK to do so, but I
will say that the University of Virginia ran a very
smooth tournament: it ran on time, and the moderating
crew was the most solid in quite some time. We were
blessed with the speed of Dwight Kidder in our
region.

Hope my team gets in; it could be close, as there were
very few marginal teams in our field...
