I never competed in National Science Bowl, but I do
remember an incident from National Ocean Sciences Bowl
where a distance was requested, and someone from one
of my school's teams buzzed in and said the distance
in nautical miles. There was a long pause amongst the
judges, indicating that all of their answers were
metric. They rules it as correct because they didn't
feel like converting the answer. The moral of this is
that NOSB rules stated that you can give answers in
any unit as long as they were equivalent.
