Re: Mid Atlantic NAQT...

"One problem which was beyond UVA's control was
that 2 teams in division I and 1 team in division II
didn't show up. The solution in Div I was to play all
the games against empty seats. I never saw the point
of this (other than to get us our guarranteed 12
"games")."

As someone with tournament director experience, I
know what a pain in the _at_$$ it is when teams cancel at
the last minute -- the evening before or even the
morning of the tournament. Along with the other
last-minute headaches, there is basically no time to figure
out (and copy, and work out logistics for) a new
schedule. The other option would have been to give teams
two more byes -- but if I were on a team, I'd rather
actually be doing something during those rounds, even if
it's just hearing the questions with my own teammates.

There was some nasty weather in Virginia on Sat.
morning, so I don't blame Georgetown for not coming.

I agree that the person who said that the rounds
would be replayed later probably shouldn't have said
that -- there being neither the packets nor the time
in the schedule to do so, once the absent teams had
missed the first couple rounds.

" It was
particularly anticlimactic to be told we HAD to play our last
game against empty seats (or suffer statistics
penalties for NAQT ICT seeding) after finishing
undefeated."

Oh come on, Rob -- they could have suddenly broken
out an Uber-ACF packet and you could have lost
0-(-5)!
