The full results and statistics for the 2003 Frederick Douglass
Invitational Championship, held on September 27 at the University of
Rochester, are now available. Full standings and statistics can be
found temporarily at
http://mail.rochester.edu/~ma005j/fdicresults_standings.html and will
be posted permanently at
http://sa.rochester.edu/thelion/fdicresults_standings.html within a
week. Here though, is a summary of those results.

The standings after the round-robin portion of the tournament were as
follows:

The top four teams played in a single elimination playoff. In those

The top four scorers received their choice of prizes from a selection
consisting of: a Benjamin Franklin Action Figure (Laura), the Hardy
Boys #109: The Prime-time Crime, which is the one where Frank plays
quizbowl on television (Michael), a Sigmund Freud Action Figure
(Adam), and the musical equivalent of a neg-five, the Ethel Merman
Disco Album (Daniel). I certainly hope that they all enjoy their
prizes.

I would like to take this opportunity to once again thank all the
teams for coming, and making this tournament a success. Hopefully
this tournament will continue to grow through the years and provide
teams with a place to go early in the year to introduce their young
players to quizbowl.

I'd also like to thank Dwight Kidder and Scott Francis for
moderating. Knowing that they were reading made me worry a whole lot
less. In addition, thanks to Rich from Pitt for volunteering to
help, even though we didn't have anything for him to do.

Now, since we do plan on hosting this, as well as other tournaments,
in the future, we would appreciate any feedback that we can get from
people who attended. If there was anything that you thought we could
have done better, please let us know. Likewise, if you think that we
did something exactly right, and want to make sure that we don't
change it in the future, tell us that as well. We want to make this
as enjoyable as possible for the people that come, but we can't do
that unless we know how we're doing. Please send all comments to
quizbowl_at_... (quizbowl _at_ mail.rochester.edu).

Thanks again to everyone who came, and I hope that we get a chance to
see you in Rochester again in the future. I hope that you all found
it as fun as I did.
