COTKU thoughts

Again, Charlie and co. hosted a great tournament. UTC tournaments
are always the most fun tournaments to go to. Bad luck abounded for
our Athens State team, but we still had a very enjoyable
tournament.
One thing that was questionable: Div. II was split into two pools
due to the fact that there were 20 teams. However, all the teams
that wrote packets were put into one pool and all those that did not
write packets were in the other pool. I know that this was to help
in scheduling, but it made for HIGHLY uneven pool play. Generally
speaking, the teams that write packets are the better, more
experienced teams. Therefore, the pools were a bit lopsided. This
is evident by the fact that only one of the "Samuel Bracket" teams
made it past the "Thomas a' Bracket" teams in the first round of the
play-offs.

As for questions, the packets ranged from the Seth Kendall packet (a
bit on the touch side) to the Stephen Webb packet (not so hard). A
little bit more consistency on the difficulty level would have been
nice, but that is the nature of packet submission. The packets
overall were good, with great editing. The only atrocious packet
that stands out was the one by Furman, which no amount of editing
could save. I believe there were at least three mentions of "EMO
bands" in this one packet.

Anyway, all sour grapes aside, it was another success for UTC. I
can't wait for the next UTC tournament (ACF Regionals, I think).
Charlie rules supreme as tournament director. Congrats to Florida
for winning Div. I and to Ga. Tech for winning Div. II.

Looking forward to ACF Fall in a couple of weeks...
